The Cíes archipelago is made up of 3 islands: Monteagudo, Faro and San Martiño and the islets of Agoeiro or Boeiro, Penela dos Vinos,  Carabelos and  Ruzo. It is located at the mouth of the Vigo estuary.

If we fly over the Cíes archipelago, the contrasting relief between the west face, facing the ocean, where the steep cliffs rise more than 150 meters and the east face, which faces the Vigo estuary and touches the sea with the sand of its beaches. It stands out for its importance  geomorphological and biological complex formed by the Rodas beach barrier, which acts as a natural bridge between the Monteagudo and Faro islands, and O Lago (formerly “El Lago de los Ninos”), which serves as a refuge for fish breeding and other aquatic animals. Once populated, the Cíes Islands offer a good sample of cultural heritage: ruins of monasteries, forts, salting factories and carabinieri warehouses.

How to get?

By public maritime transport

In high season

Easter, and from May 15 to September 15

The transport companies that provide these services are usually based in the ports of Vigo, Cangas and Baiona. Each season these companies establish their routes and schedules so it is advisable to check them beforehand to approach the islands on these dates.

The limit of daily visitors to the Cíes archipelago in the high season is 1,600-1,800 people per day, so it is necessary to have prior authorization from the Xunta de Galicia before buying the ticket from the shipping company. Access more information and the authorisation website HERE.

In low season

Rest of the year

Cíes can only be visited in organised groups with a guide, so visitors must contact the authorised shipping companies that organise the visiting groups.  The maximum number of visitors in low season is 250-450 people per day. The guide must be identified as accredited by the National Park and cannot go with more than 25 people in the group.

The contacts of the shipping companies can be seen at the end of this page.

By private boat

The visit can be made any day of the year but it is necessary to have the navigation and anchoring permits issued by the National Park. The form to request the navigation permit can be downloaded from this website in the section authorizations and it also indicates the documentation that must be attached. The applications, once completed, can be sent by email, regular mail or fax to the offices of the National Park.
Once you have obtained the navigation permit, you can request online the anchoring permits for those days you wish to anchor in the islands.
The daily limit in this archipelago is 75-125 anchorages/day spread over three areas (San Martiño, Nosa Señora and Rodas).
