The Master Plan of the National Parks Network (Royal Decree 1080/99 of 26 November 1999) provides guidelines for research and monitoring of resources and determines promotion of research into the assets and natural processes of the Parks. The Master Plan also provides that research results be made public and that their publication and knowledge transfer be promoted, on the one hand for its use in Park management, and on the other, for its dissemination and interpretation to improve understanding.
To this end, a Scientific Committee drew up the conceptual framework of the said Research Programme, which includes different action lines, notable among which are the calls for research grants in fields related to the National Parks Network.
This line of aid aims to promote quality research, contribute effectively to improve scientific knowledge of the National Parks, seek solutions to technical, social and economic problems and, ultimately, to improve management of these unique protected areas.
The scientific community in the area is increasingly aware of the natural and cultural assets of this Galician territory, and hence research projects in the Park area are gaining more and more interest. Thus, there are ongoing lines of research that fulfil this particular framework and programme.
